HEALTH TIP #1 – DRINK MORE WATER!

A “good health” habit: DRINK MORE WATER! “Drink more water” is a good health habit that I share in the office regularly. When I began drinking more water as a habit (approximately 12 years ago), my morning “fuzzy” headaches went away and I didn’t fight the after-lunch “drowsies” like I had before. I have found it easier to lose weight when I drink more water.

“But I don’t like water” – DRINK MORE WATER! “But I’m not thirsty” – DRINK MORE WATER! “I get plenty of liquids by drinking other things” – DRINK MORE WATER! “I will only drink bottled water (or filtered water or tap water)” – DRINK MORE WATER! “Drinking more water will make me have to spend more time in the restroom” – DRINK MORE WATER!

The Bible often brings out the importance of needing the flow of “spiritual water” in such passages as “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. He who believes in me, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water (John 7:38) and “living fountains of water” (Rev. 17:7b) and “fountain of living waters” (Jer. 2:13; see also Zech. 14:8).

Our natural bodies need the flow of natural water just like our spirits need the flow of spiritual water.

Our bodies are composed primarily of water. Medical science has shown that staying well-hydrated with fresh water helps to prevent and treat a multitude of conditions (gout, kidney stones, weight loss, high blood pressure). Staying well-hydrated also increases energy and promotes a sense of overall “well-being.”

A good goal – a minimum goal – is to develop the habit of drinking a glass of water (6-8 oz) with your three meals (don’t skip meals). A better goal is to add a glass of water in between your meals – a habit of drinking at least 5 glasses per day. Drinking water after the evening meal might interfere with your sleep. Those who exercise and those whose jobs are strenuous will need to drink extra water.

Another good habit – for every glass of coffee, tea, juice, milk, or “sports drink”, drink an extra glass of water. For every soda, drink an extra 1-2 glasses of fresh water.

I like one of Dr. Colbert’s quotes: “Today is a new day, filled with fresh hope for an entirely new way of thinking and living.” Today is a new day to plant or re-plant a seed of a good health habit. DRINK MORE WATER (and less soda)! I also whole-heartedly agree with one of Dr. Colbert’s prayers for his readers (from the book The Bible Cure for Weight Loss and Muscle Gain): “I pray that you live a long and prosperous life walking in divine health so that you may serve and worship the Lord.”

(Phil. 4:13)

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
